The air suspension warning light indicates a problem with the vehicle’s air suspension system. Many modern vehicles, particularly luxury cars and SUVs, use air suspension instead of traditional coil springs to provide improved ride comfort and adjustable ride height.
An air suspension system uses air-filled rubber bags instead of standard suspension springs. A compressor pumps air into these suspension bags to raise or lower the vehicle depending on driving conditions or load requirements. Electronic sensors monitor the vehicle height and adjust the suspension automatically.
The air suspension warning light usually appears as a vehicle icon with arrows pointing up and down or a suspension symbol depending on the manufacturer. When this warning light appears it means the system has detected a fault within the air suspension components.
One of the most common causes of air suspension faults is an air leak within the suspension air bags. Over time the rubber air bags can wear or crack, allowing air to escape. This can cause the vehicle to sit lower than normal or become uneven.
Another possible cause is a failing air suspension compressor. The compressor is responsible for pumping air into the suspension system. If the compressor becomes weak or fails completely, the system may not be able to maintain proper ride height.
Other issues may include faulty height sensors, damaged air lines or electrical problems within the suspension control module.
Drivers may notice symptoms such as the vehicle sitting lower than usual, uneven ride height, warning messages on the dashboard or a noticeably rougher ride.
If the air suspension warning light appears it is recommended to have the system inspected as soon as possible. Continuing to drive with a suspension fault may cause further damage to the system.
